Fair value gap examples on real charts

14 real sessions, each with every fair value gap the three-candle rule finds drawn on the candles. Pick a pair and a date, or scroll.

How these were chosen

Each chart is a 12-hour window (06:00 to 18:00 UTC, 48 candles of 15 minutes) of real Dukascopy candles. The gaps are found by the plain rule: three candles, wicks only, no minimum size. Nothing is drawn by hand.

These sessions were chosen, not sampled. Each has 3 to 7 gaps with both directions present, so it reads clearly. A typical session has 9, so most real charts are busier.

Each box starts at the gap and runs until a later candle trades through its far edge, or to the end of the window. The list under each chart gives the price range and what price did next in that window.

What the whole sample shows

These are counts from 1,500 session windows of 8 instruments (seven pairs and gold), 29 December 2025 to 30 October 2026, found by the same rule. They describe this sample only.

Counts from the sample
Gaps per session windowmedian 9; 8 windows in 10 had 6 to 13
All gaps found14,276 (7,280 bullish, 6,996 bearish)
Gaps with at least 8 candles left in their window11,764
Touched within 8 candles (120 minutes)8,872 of 11,764 (75%)
Filled within 8 candles (120 minutes)7,129 of 11,764 (61%)

Touched means a later candle traded back into the gap range. Filled means a later candle traded through the far edge. Candles are counted from the one after the gap's third candle.

Read these counts with care. The rule has no minimum size, so many gaps are tiny and price crosses them quickly. The numbers say how often that happened in this sample. They are not a chance that the next gap will be revisited, and they say nothing about whether trading a gap pays.
